Come one, come all to the Skegness Carnival and welcome to the circus!
This year the carnival theme is The Circus and will be led by Skegness’ very own Mr Fips Wonder Circus. With the help of many other local businesses and organisations this year promises to be the biggest parade ever.
There will be countless people entertaining the crowds in the fancy dress and decorated floats and also four marching bands from Skegness and all over the country.
The carnival parade takes place on Sunday, August 13 with judging at 12pm and the parade kicking off a week of events at 1pm.
Don’t forget to look out for Carnival Charlie, Skegness Carnival’s very own mascot!
A fly past is also set for the big day, weather permitting, as crowds gather across the whole town.
You will also be able to find a whole host of circus and other entertainment in Tower Gardens throughout the day, starting from 10am-6pm, with plenty of stalls too.
The carnival parade kicks off a whole week of FREE EVENTS.
Monday sees the carnival spend a day at the beach.
Come along to the Pavement Artist Competition from 10am to 12noon on the North side of the Pier, grab some chalk and doodle away.
There will also be a family treasure hunt taking place at the same time.
In the afternoon is the popular Sand Sculpting Competition on Central Beach (south of the Pier) between 2pm and 4pm. Judges will be looking for something a little bit special.
There is lots going on in Tower Gardens on the Tuesday.
In the morning we’re calling on all Tiny Tots to join in the fun, Super Heroes and ‘Miss Seaside’s’ for a fancy dress competition, starting at 10.30am.
In the afternoon is the Baby Show, sponsored by Nicola’s Nursery World.
Registration is at 1pm and there are always great prizes to be won!
There are also stalls all day starting from 10am.
On Wednesday, (August 16) it’s the 999 day!
The ever popular 999 day – dedicated to our emergency services will take place in the new location of Tower Gardens from 10am-4pm.
The event will see all the services including Police, Fire Service, Ambulance and Coastwatch join forces to put on a fantastic display for all to enjoy with plenty of hands on experiences.
Throughout the day there will be bouncy castles, stalls, tombolas and the Skegness Carnival BBQ.
Starting at 11am there will also be a family treasure hunt, collect your form from the Carnival gazebo in the Tower Gardens.
Returning this year is the Open Mic Night, also on Wednesday.
All budding entertainers, singers and bands are free to enter the competition in the hopes of taking home the cash prize at the end of the night.
The open mic night is held at The Suncastle and starts at 7.30pm.
Jump around! The popular disco for kids and adults alike, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, starts at 7pm on Thursday, (August 17).
You can expect dancing with loads of fun games and prizes thrown in and perhaps even an appearance from our very own Carnival Charlie.
New this year during the day on Thursday is some fun beach games for the whole family taking place between 10am – 12noon and 2pm-4pm near the Pier.
We will also have a second circus workshop taking place at the Neverland Theatre on Prince George Street with Mr Fips and his acts.
The workshop starts at 12 noon and best of all it’s FREE.
On the last day of carnival week (Friday, August 18) is the Pet Show in Tower Gardens, starting at 10am.
Everyone is welcome to bring their pet and enter the competition, cat or dog, hamster or something a little unorthodox, it doesn’t matter!
And during the day you will be able to see some fantastic displays from dog agility teams.
The finale to the Skegness Carnival week is the Quiz Night on Friday night.
Come along, choose your team and sit down in anticipation for the return of the quiz.
Have you bought a Carnival raffle ticket? There is a £500 Cash Prize up for grabs and this is where you will find out if you are a lucky winner.
The event starts at 7.30pm at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
As you may or may not be aware, the Skegness Carnival is run by a small group of devoted people on a voluntary, non-profit basis, who give up their time to put together several events throughout the year for the good of Skegness.
All the events are free to attend but if you fancy making a small donation, pleaase drop it in a carnival collection bucket as every little helps and it will help to make next year’s event even better!
