South Lincs and Border League
Stamford 127 all out
Skegness 126 all out
Stamford (17pts) beat Skegness (7pts) by one run
SKEGNESS Cricket Club’s quest for the South Lincs and Border League title is hanging by a thread after Saturday’s single run defeat at mid-table Stamford.
The seasiders still enjoy a two-point advantage at the top of the table with two games left.
But second placed Sleaford 2nds have a game in hand and are now favourites to snatch the silverware at the death.
Skegness won the toss at Stamford and put the home side in to bat. They then skittled them out for 127 in the 45th over, despite a wagging tail that gave the home side some hope.
Jason Elsom was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for the loss of 22 runs.
In response the seasiders were dismissed one run short of their target in the 36th over.
Openers Alistair Ainsworth (39) and Reece Brant (21) got them off to a solid start, but Lachlan Stephen King and Michael Jackson were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as they collapsed, just one run short of the Stamford total.
The defeat left Skegness with just seven bonus points, reflecting on what might have been.
