Skegness Coasters run that extra mile for RNLI.
Funds raised by 2017 Skegness 10K totaling a whopping £7,500 donated to Skegness RNLI, in a presentation at the charities lifebaot station on Tower Esplanade.
2017 saw the fourth annual staging of the Skegness 10k organized by local running club, Skegness Coasters. The event played host to 750 runners taking part in the now annual event.
Each year the club vote on which local charity to support and in 2017 there was overwhelming support for the RNLI.
Dave Freeman 10K race director said
‘Each year coasters vote on which local charity to support, this year from five nominations RNLI won overwhelmingly. The race is now in its fourth year, growing each year, we started at 200, and have donated including this year £13k to local charities’
Dave went on to thank all those who made the event possible
‘We also managed to attract sponsorship from Brown and Co, who paid for the medals the Co-op who gave us the water, Butlins who allowed us the use their facilities and their grounds and the water leisure park, who allowed us to run through the park.
Lincolnshire runner also gave us some vouchers to use as prizes.
The race was organized by a small committee of five without whose dedication and support we could not have put the race on.
Coasters and other local groups also marshalled the event.
The local scouts and cadets helped with car parking and the water stations, and have received donations of £100 each.
We aim to make it a friendly race and we have had some fantastic feedback saying how well it was organized and how good the Marshalls were and how supportive they were.
RNLI Skegness Coxswain Richard Watson was Honoured to be asked to start the race and hand out medals to the deserving competitors:
‘I had the honour of being asked to start the race and help hand out the medals to all the competitors.
It was a fantastic effort by all those involved from the Coasters and all their sponsors and supporters not forgetting all the runners
