Pro am Qualifier number 3 took place this week at the Ex Service, and a quality field of 30 all took to the oche all with aspirations of teaming up with one of our 8 pro’s on November 4th.
Some tasty first round matches saw hot favourite Carl Abbiss against Rick Garner and Carl came through this one 2-0, team mates Paul Tuplin and Stuart Hodson clashed and Paul was too strong winning 2-0
One of 2 ladies entered Natalie Abbiss found Nick Casswell too good as he came through 2-0, the other lady Maria Titre took a leg off Jim Wilson, but Jim won this 2-1.
Andy Hardy making his debut in this competition, opened his account in style beating Lee Woods 2-1, and in the tie of the first round we had the World Disabled Darts Number 1 Paul Gelder take on Scott Smith , and in a cracker of a game it was Scott that got the narrow 2-1 win.
Andy Hardy kept up his good work, as he beat all in front of him to move into the semi final, with a 2-1 over lee Yates in the quarters.
Eric Hammond, playing good darts at the moment, had good wins over up and coming Kyle Davis, Nick Casswell , to move into the quarters.
Pete Evans had made stealthy progress against “jager king” Rob Pomeroy, and Paul Tuplin to set up a quarter final clash against Eric, and Pete was in mean mood as he swept Eric aside to move into the semi final.
Carl abbiss kept up his good work as he progressed to the Semi Final beating Rick Seaman and Scott Smith both 2-0, another debutante Richard Hughes made his mark as he beat Wez Elston , Kristian Thein and Stewart Yapp, as he stormed into the semi final, where it was Carl Abbiss awaiting, and in a very high scoring game with missed doubles from Carl, it was Richard that prevailed 2-0 to book his place in the final.
The other Semi final saw Pete Evans and Andy Hardy do battle, and it was old warrior Pete who proved a little too strong to take his place in the final, and in a ding dong game in the final, it was newby Richard Hughes that beat off the challenge of Pete Evans, and takes his place in the Pro am on November 4th, both in the Masters where the top prize is £150, and the pro am itself with one of the pro players.
Next qualifier will take place on 29th June again at the Ex Service and is a best of 3 event but double in double out, a real tester, but proper darts, our pro’s and their event sponsor’s for November 4th
