Pro Am qualifier took place at Ex Service club, and a field of 29 turned up for this unique double 3 start competition, and it certainly found a few players out, Pete Evansleading the way in the highest point scorers, could not add to his tally as he went down to Stuart Hodson 2-1, Stuart then went on to beat Jim Wilson 2-0 and then met his match in the quarter final, as Gordon Smith beat him 2-0, Gordon had previously beat Rick Seaman and David Tuplin both 2-0, Gordon was in mean mood marching to the semi – final without dropping a leg who would his opponent be ?. Mark Simpson after a bye in the first round took on the in form Nathan Careless in round 2, and caused a bit of an upset as beat him 2-1 in a cracker of a game, Mark again was involved in a fantastic game of darts as he next took on Scott Smith, and Scott just had the upper hand 2-1 to move into the semi final.

The bottom half of the draw threw up some interesting games, one being a clash between Wayne Clarke and Lee Yates, Wayne prevailed 2-0, his next game againstChristopher Royal was a close affair, with both players missing doubles, it was Chris who just sneaked it 2-1. Kristian Thein was making steady progress with wins over Chris Fletcher, Scott Sutton , and Stewart Yapp dropping only 1 leg on his way to the semi final Martin Bell made stealthy progress with wins over Stewart Giles Rob Pomeroy and Christopher Royal without dropping a leg to make the Semi final against Kristian Thein and in a close game, Martin ran out the winner 2-0 to reach the final without dropping a leg

The other semi final was between 2 smiths, Scott and Gordon, and it was to be the latter Gordon Smith who won 2-0 to set up a final clash between 2 players yet to drop a leg, and it was to be Gordon’s night as he ran out a 2-0 winner, so qualified in a difficult competition with a strong field without dropping a leg, and hitting double 3 10 times, well done Gordon, a fantastic achievement, will he actually win the pro am, he has been runner up for the last 2 years, maybe, just maybe it could be his year
